We’re looking for a creative and experienced Pastry Chef to join our kitchen team at Fonda, starting in December. This is a full-time position for someone with strong baking and pastry experience, a love for seasonal ingredients, and an appreciation for thoughtful, balanced flavour.

You’ll oversee and manage all aspects of pastry and baking production, from developing new recipes and shaping the seasonal pastry menu to leading the pastry team in daily preparation and maintaining consistent quality. The role requires a hands-on leader who can balance creativity with structure, guiding the team while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate combines technical skill with creativity and precision, and enjoys leading and collaborating within a small, dynamic kitchen team.

Responsibilities + Tasks

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of pastry production within the restaurant.

  • Lead, train, and support the pastry team to ensure consistent quality and efficient workflow.

  • Create and develop new pastry and baked goods recipes that align with the restaurant’s concept and seasonal offerings.

  • Manage inventory levels of pastry ingredients and supplies, placing orders as needed to maintain stock levels.

  • Collaborate with the executive chef and management team to develop seasonal pastry menus that complement the overall menu.

  • Ensure food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards are upheld at all times.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of experience as a pastry chef or in a similar senior role.

  • Proven record of creating high-quality pastries, baked goods, and desserts in a professional kitchen.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing or mentoring a small team.

  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities to oversee pastry production efficiently.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure seamless operations.

About Fonda

Fonda is a café and bar at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Fonda presents two distinct locations within the museum where visitors may pause and relax while staying connected to the museum’s creative energy.  

Fonda Bar is open to the public in the museum's entrance hall. The bar’s menu features daily baked goods made in-house, La Cabra coffee, Japanese teas, and refreshing soft drinks. Fonda Café, located on the first floor, is exclusively for museum ticket holders. The café’s menu celebrates homestyle cooking with a refined twist. The simple, comforting dishes are made with seasonal ingredients and surprising elegant elements.
